Food & Drink
Firstly, our guests love that we are only a short 8 minute stroll through country lanes to a traditional local village pub The Sidmouth Arms which serves good family pub food.
Bidwell Farm is fortunate to be in an area that is fast becoming a little pocket of foodie heaven. Farm shops and local suppliers aplenty; we champion local producers and your welcome gift pack contains some of our favourite delicious treats.
If you would like to eat out then we are spoilt for choice. River Cottage HQ is in nearby Axminster where you can either dine or choose from a range of cooking courses. Mark Hix’s Oyster and Fish House has wonderful views over Lyme Bay or The Hive Café sits right on a National Trust beach at Burton Bradstock serving the best crab sandwiches.
The River Exe Café sits on a floating platform right in the middle of the River Exe, selling fresh mussels farmed in the River Exe. It can only be accessed by a river taxi which is organized when you make a reservation. Its unique location cannot be bettered!
Michael Caines (our local celebrity chef) has already gained a Michelin Star at his new hotel: Lympstone Manor which overlooks the Exe Estuary at Exmouth, and The Pig at Combe both offer fine dining options.
For our truly carnivorous guests then The Rusty Pig offers a fabulous brunch as does The Pig and Pallet.
We have a couple of outstanding local vineyards which are open for tours at certain times of the year: Pebblebed in Clyst St George and Sharpham which sits overlooking the Dart near Totnes. The Otter Brewery produces fine local Otter Ale and Tarka lager sold in most good pubs. Sheppy’s Cider in nearby Taunton have been making Somerset cider for 200 years and the clever producers at Black Cow in West Dorset have even been making vodka out of milk!
